Bridging Borders through Neurointervention | A China–Mexico Academic Dialogue
On April 16, a meaningful academic exchange took place across continents at Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, where Prof. Yang Xinjian and his neurovascular team welcomed distinguished neurosurgical experts from Mexico.
Visiting the Tiantan Neurointervention Center were: Dr. Jorge Arturo Santos Franco, Head of Neurosurgery at Hospital de Especialidades Centro Médico Nacional La Raza (IMSS) Dr. Sophie d’Herbemont, Co-founder of Hospital Ángeles Universidad & NeuroCuore Clinic This cross-Pacific dialogue focused on neurointerventional technology, stroke center construction, and healthcare system comparison. The Mexican delegation observed live procedures in the neurointerventional suite and engaged in in-depth discussions on practice models, device innovation, and tailored treatment strategies. Key highlights from the exchange: 1. Comparison of tiered referral in Mexico vs. China’s one-stop stroke centers 2. Cultural insights into hospital vs. physician-centric patient trust models 3. Mutual appreciation for high procedural volumes and workflow efficiency at Tiantan Hospital 4. Technical consensus on flow diverter selection: High metal coverage preferred for large, complex aneurysms;High flexibility favored for distal vessel pathologies Sharing of clinical experience with Nuva® flow diverter and other domestic technologies This dialogue not only fostered deeper understanding between China and Mexico in the neurointerventional field but also laid the groundwork for future cooperation in neurosurgical training, clinical innovation, and academic exchange. We welcome more global partnerships to advance neuroscience together.
