One-Month Follow-Up Case | ASD with Right Heart Enlargement

One-Month Follow-Up Case | ASD with Right Heart Enlargement

A 26-year-old female patient presented with recurrent chest tightness over the past two years, which had worsened over the last three months. Her symptoms include chest discomfort, palpitations, shortness of breath, and occasional chest pain.

Echo Findings: A secundum ASD (14mm x 12mm) with an inter-atrial left-to-right shunt; the defect is positioned near the aorta, with minimal distance from the mitral valve, superior vena cava, and inferior vena cava. Mild enlargement of the right atrium and right ventricle. Normal left ventricular systolic function.

Clinical Stragety: BDASD-I 20 (with 5 platinum rings) biodegradable ASD occluder with a 14F biodegradable occluder delivery system were chosen for the intervention. The team used DSA and ultrasound guidance to assist the procedure.

One-Month Follow-Up Results (fig.9-12)

*Left atrium & left ventricle: normal diameters observed with no significant abnormalities in wall thickness or systolic function.

*Mitral valve: no thickening, with normal opening and mild mitral regurgitation observed via color Doppler.

*Aortic valve & aortic root: normal diameters and valve opening, with mild aortic regurgitation noted.

*Right heart chambers: right atrium and right ventricle volumes within normal limits, and normal pulmonary artery dimensions. The tricuspid valve is unremarkable with mild regurgitation.

*Pericardial cavity: no significant echogenic areas detected.

*ASD occluder: the occluder is securely positioned with no significant shunting observed around the device, confirming successful closure.
