End-stage renal disease (ESRD), also known as end-stage kidney disease, occurs when chronic kidney disease develops to an advanced state. In end-stage renal disease, your kidneys are no longer able to work as they are supposed to do. The main function of your kidneys is to filter wastes and dispose fluids from your blood through your urine. When your kidneys lose their filtering capabilities, dangerous levels of fluid, electrolytes and wastes can build up in your body. 

When chronic kidney disease is in an early stage, you may not feel symptoms. As chronic kidney disease progresses to end-stage renal disease, signs and symptoms come up gradually, which may include:

• Changes in how much you urinate
